I was thinking about the Edinburgh party accounts, and just how many of them there are, and how it always seems to be the same groups of people who go to them. And it made me think that we are all just a bunch of kids in a bunch of towns throwing parties, and we’re all so different and none of us really know each other but it’s like we’re part of a community or something, something bigger. (I can’t believe I’m actually describing c side as like a movement or something). Like I don’t know, it’s something unique to this particular generation in this particular place, and if you add us all up there’s only probably a few hundred of us who actually even know about these parties, even if it’s just vaguely or they’ve only ever been to one. Like obviously other generations have had their specific niche party scenes but I dunno I never really thought I’d be in one. And when we’re older like 30, we’ll meet other 30 year olds from the same town and we’ll say Remember Cside 3? That was crazy! Or maybe we’ll tell our kids Yeah, when I was your age there used to be all these parties set up by the same few people on instagram accounts.

Like I dunno the idea of trends is kinda crazy, or like joke accounts specific to a specific niche of people and it’s like a community through this kinda joke online thing but obviously only a few people know about this joke. But this is like one of those trends, except it’s in person, like the people following these accounts and these trends are actually meeting up and seeing each other in person, at these events. So it’s kinda crazy, I don’t know if I’m saying this right but kinda like we’re part of this weird community. Not saying I like any of the kind of people who go to these things, like it’s not a community I really care about being involved in, but it is a community nonetheless, according to definition. And it’s crazy that it’s all set up by kids like our age, and we all have this secret thing in common that we can make happen, and the police or any other adults are not gonna know and they’re not gonna be expected a massive crowd of teenagers getting drunk on the beach on a random weekend, and coz we’re not adults we’re not really gonna care so much if this gathering or something is disruptive or kinda unlicensed.

And I dunno we’re all connected somehow through this, it makes me realise that there’s clones of the same people everywhere you go. And also that you can’t just put a bunch of kids in a dead town and expect them to not find each. Like people long for community and Cside and vibeedin and fiesta.edin and other of those events, they’re all just made by people striving to make connections, and people go because they want to see people, they have a  fear of missing out and need for a community. Like that’s genuinely all it is. Everyone needs community, even those annoying Edinburgh teenagers.

think sitting on that bench was one of the most awkward moments of my life. I was quite literally stuck in the middle. I could actually feel the anxiety in my stomach. I think I could make some moments and conversations of my life into a movie.
